Liverpool Football Club (Liverpool) is an English football club based in Liverpool, Merseyside, and are the most successful English football team to date. Since being founded in 1892, Liverpool have won five European Cups, and 18 Football League titles on top of being the English club to have won the most number of UEFA Cups, European Supercups and English League Cups. The club’s home ground is Anfield stadium, which is about three miles from the centre of Liverpool.

The club was founded on March 15, 1892 by John Houlding, the owner of Anfield. Houlding decided to form his own team after Everton left Anfield in an argument over rent. The original name was to be Everton F.C. but was changed to Liverpool F.C. (after the F.A. refused to recognise the team as Everton). Liverpool were elected to the Football League alongside Woolwich Arsenal two years later.

In terms of famous players you could go on and on about some of Liverpool’s best. It’s usually enough just to mention the names Keegan, Dalgleish, Souness and Fowler. Liverpool have had some fantastic teams in the past but if you were looking for a true golden period I don’t think you’d get too many Liverpool fans arguing that the 80’s were brilliant for Liverpool.
Despite being so successful in the past Liverpool have suffered lately, seeing their most bitter rivals from Manchester rapidly catching up and overtaking their trophy haul. The last 2 decades have not been overly kind to the team from Merseyside. There has been some European success under foreign management but domestic silverware has been few and far between. Having lost out to Manchester United in the 2008-09 season they were expected to really push hard in 2009-10, it never happened, leaving many Liverpool fans red faced once again after declaring this year to be their year. With Roy Hodgson come and gone since then, followed by Brendan Rodgers in charge the Premier League era for Liverpool has been one about much change. However with Brendan Rodgers well and truly settled in and exerting his influence maybe, just maybe the 2015/16 could be “their year”? Alas it wasn’t to happen and under the new manager Jurgen Klopp the team seems to have stagnated again. Capable of brilliant displays one week and terrible the next if there is one team in the Premier League that you’re just not sure what you’re going to get from them it is Liverpool? The question is would their fans swap their occasional display of entertaining free flowing football for a more consistent (read boring) approach that may once again see them at the top of English football?
