De Ryder Cup wedstrijden, een van de laatste grote sportevenementen gebaseerd op prestige in plaats van prijzengeld, beslaan 34 competities in 77 jaar. De oorsprong van het idee om internationale wedstrijden te organiseren tussen de beste Amerikaanse professionals en die van Groot-Brittannië is onderwerp van discussie onder golfhistorici. Voormalig PGA President George Sargent (1921-26) van de Southeastern PGA Section schreef Sylvanus P. Jermain, president van de Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, toe dat hij het concept in 1921 voor het eerst presenteerde.
In 1979, toen het team van Groot-Brittannië en Ierland werd uitgebreid met spelers uit Europese landen, werd de indeling herzien met vier vierbal- en vier vier viertallenwedstrijden op de eerste twee dagen en 12 enkelspelwedstrijden op de derde dag. Er werden in totaal 28 punten toegekend.

She looks forward to leading the US team in the prestigious competition.
Brandon Robinson-Thompson set a course record of 61 in the first round of the Bahrain Championship, leading by three shots. Despite a bogey at the last hole, he was pleased with his performance amidst challenging weather conditions. He narrowly missed equaling a tour record with eight birdies and two eagles. His career-best round left him eager for future success with his new caddy, while fellow Englishman Callum Tarren trailed in second place.
