Brandon Robinson-Thompson set a course record of 61 in the first round of the Bahrain Championship, leading by three shots. Despite a bogey at the last hole, he was pleased with his performance amidst challenging weather conditions. He narrowly missed equaling a tour record with eight birdies and two eagles. His career-best round left him eager for future success with his new caddy, while fellow Englishman Callum Tarren trailed in second place.
World number one Scottie Scheffler remains unfazed by a recent hand injury from a Christmas accident. Despite needing surgery, he is ready to compete in the upcoming AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Scheffler admitted initial frustration over the mishap but is confident in his recovery. Though sidelined for two events, he opts not to alter his schedule. The 28-year-old aims to continue his successful streak after winning major titles in 2024.
The Old Course at St Andrews will host the Open Championship in 2027, maintaining its five-year cycle. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, St Andrews was unable to host in 2021, but will celebrate its 30th time as host in 2022 before marking the 100th anniversary of Bobby Jones' victory in 2027. R&A's CEO is excited for St Andrews' return and praises its unique atmosphere. St Andrews, despite its size, remains a prestigious venue for The Open.
