En 1979, lorsque l'équipe de Grande-Bretagne et d'Irlande a été élargie pour inclure des joueurs de pays européens, le format a été révisé pour offrir quatre matchs de fourball et quatre matchs de foursomes les deux premiers jours et 12 matchs de simple le troisième jour. Le total des points attribués était de 28.
