The Aintree race course is one of the most famous in the whole of the UK for 1 simple reason, it is the home of the Grand National. Even for people who have no interest in horse racing or gambling the national is perhaps the one race that EVERYBODY knows, and one that most people feel comfortable having a flutter on.
We all know that spring is well and truly under way when the Aintree Festival and the Grand National come around. The Aintree racecourse itself is actually 2 courses in 1. The Grand National course is a dedicated steeplechase track with a total length of 2 miles 2 furlongs. This course is a rough triangle, raced left handed (anti clockwise). The second track, the Mildmay course is much shorter at only 1 mile 3 furlongs and is a much tighter oval shaped track, again run left handed.
