Zápasy Ryder Cupu, jedné z posledních velkých sportovních událostí založených spíše na prestiži než na peněžních výhrách, se konají již 34 let. Bývalý prezident PGA George Sargent (1921-26) z jihovýchodní sekce PGA připsal Sylvanusovi P.
