Despite the resignation, the club's president has not accepted it, expressing his support for Kartal. The decision was influenced by the pressure of the role and an incident during the match. The club has identified and banned the fan involved in the incident. The club's president urged for support and respect towards Kartal from both fans and media.
Shakhtar Donetsk considered various venues for hosting elite European football in west London, including Fulham's Craven Cottage and Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium. However, due to their smaller capacities, they opted for Stamford Bridge to potentially sell out to fans. The move aims to engage with the large Ukrainian community in London. Chelsea's availability, following their 10th-place finish without European competition, avoids scheduling conflicts pending approval from local authorities and Uefa.
