De oorsprong van het idee om internationale wedstrijden te organiseren tussen de beste Amerikaanse professionals en die van Groot-Brittanni\u00eb is onderwerp van discussie onder golfhistorici. Voormalig PGA President George Sargent (1921-26) van de Southeastern PGA Section schreef Sylvanus P.
