Live Ligue 1 Football

France might be world champions, but what you might not know is that Ligue 1 is the most improved league in Europe, even if they do say so themselves! Oft-derided as a development league at best and insignificant at worst, Ligue 1 has endured a hard time shedding its reputation as a second-tier competition, leading to the unflattering Farmers League description (Unfortunately for French football, the best players tend to not stick around for too long and Ligue 1 has long been recognised as a productive farming ground for youngsters that go on to become some of the most prominent footballers in the world.) However Ligue 1 is stuffed with first-class clubs: Paris Saint Germain, Marseille, Monaco, Rennes, Lille, and Nice are all better than decent. The only real issue being just how far ahead PSG in terms of spending power. The gulf between PSG and the rest of French football has often led many to expect the Parisians to win Ligue 1 before a ball is even kicked, more often than not they are proven correct.

So while Ligue 1 is most certainly not a league for agronomists, it cannot be judged successful as a competition while one team dominates. Most matches held in Ligue 1 are held on Saturdays and Sundays, however throughout the season several matches can also be held during weekdays too, in the evenings. The hope is that with strong finances and economic backing in the coming years, Ligue 1 can hold onto its best talent and become a higher quality, more respected European league. It has been a long time since Ligue 1 has been a dominant force in European competitions but hopefully that situation will improve soon.
